A conference and art performance event for the hypergrid enabled virtual worlds. Not everyone in Opensim is fluent in English. HIE is a 2 day event where residents speak, in their own languages, about about grids they've made, problems they have overcome, their inventions, experiences, and art. And, so that everyone can follow the talks, there are subtitles in German, French, Italian, Spanish and yes, in English too !

Sunday at HIE 2023: French Session

The beautiful and elegant LadyKa introduced the opening session of the Hypergrid International Expo today, at about 6pm Paris time. Another day of fantastic speeches, all in the French language, and inspiring us all to be more active, more open to new ideas, more sensitive to the wider community and to finding ways that we can unite, cooperate and have fun together while respecting the ideas and cultural differences of our neighbors.
A lot of people took time to go and explore the huge park with its 70 booths, each one promoting a grid, a region, a project or a person active right here in Opensim. This event is designed to elevate our sense of residence in this unique hypergrid - a constellation of independent worlds that comes together when they choose to, yet operate as separate entities, creating marvels and oases of peace and fun all around the globe.
Our first speaker arrived on a dandelion seed! Kelso Uxlay gave a really fascinating speech about the KFM function in opensim scripting that allows you to make objects move in a smooth and realistic way, whether it's saloon doors swinging back and forth, or running up a ladder, or even doing a Miley Cyrus... here's Kelso in action!

Practice at HIE

Probe- Répétition - Prova
HIE is about 2 months away, but the fun of rehearsals has already begun!
It's said that 75% of people fear speaking in public! So we salute our performers, and want to give them as much support as possible.  It is also useful for our filming crew to understand how best to set their cameras to make everyone look good!
Presenters need to do quite a bit. they prepare a 20 minute speech, with approximately 10  textures to display in a slideshow. They give the Translation team a document with the main points of their talk, which become the multi-language 'subtitles' that permit everyone to understand the talk.

Booth Fun at HIE

If you're not presenting or performing at this year's Hypergrid International Expo, you can still be part of the fun. Everyone's welcome to join us as audience members, - and remember,  there will be 'subtitles' for all the talks, no matter the language!
You can also be part of the Park - it's full of publicity booths! Just for fun, not for profit.
In the background of this photo you can see red and blue pyramids. Those are available spots for booths, the red ones mark older booths from a past event, the blue ones are new places.
Yes, come and represent yourself, your region, grid or project, with a simple stand in the grounds of the auditorium. There are still a few spaces left, so don't delay!

Meet the Team: Kelso Uxlay

Kelso Uxlay started to explore virtual worlds via Second Life thanks to his RL partner known inworld as Dabici Straulino. They share a grid that re-creates inworld the magnificent Canadian countryside, in all its changing seasons, the snowy winter, the colorful fall and the greenery of the spring - they show us both the cultural history and the landscapes they both love so much. Kelso speaks German, French and English, so he is the perfect choice for Director of Translations for the Hypergrid International Expo.
Dabici & Kelso on CreaNovale
Kelso Uxlay: For a while, we had our own SL region. We subsequently moved to OSgrid where we had a region for a few years, until the big OSgrid crash of 2015 in which we lost most of your inventory. This sad event convinced us to start our own private grid CreaNovale in 2017. We work together as a team: Dabici focusses on landscape design and construction while Kelso put magics in the builds via scripting.

The event coming up in October is called Hypergrid International Expo. How important, in your opinion, is that word 'International' in this context?
