Probe- Répétition - Prova
HIE is about 2 months away, but the fun of rehearsals has already begun!
It's said that 75% of people fear speaking in public! So we salute our performers, and want to give them as much support as possible. It is also useful for our filming crew to understand how best to set their cameras to make everyone look good!
Presenters need to do quite a bit. they prepare a 20 minute speech, with approximately 10 textures to display in a slideshow. They give the Translation team a document with the main points of their talk, which become the multi-language 'subtitles' that permit everyone to understand the talk.
Then, each performer gets an account on the free Discord app. The conference uses Discord to stream the performer's voices into the auditorium. Streaming using Discord is more reliable than Voice, it can be heard across sim boundaries, and... imagine if we had Voice turned on in the auditorium... the speaker could never make themselves heard over the general chat!

So there are multiple things for the presenter to do - be inworld, have Discord open, organize their speech notes, make sure their lips are moving, and that they understand how to use the podium and the Slideshow machine. Sounds like a lot - but it's possible with a little practice.
That's why the HIE team will be on hand, every Wednesday from 12 noon SLT to give everyone a chance to practice their part, to get accustomed to the stage, and to understand what is needed at t this event.
It is unlike most expos and festivals in opensim, so this is a new experience for almost everyone!
Yesterday was our first practice, and we had people from the Italian, French, and Spanish sessions of the conference on the stage, going through essential information.
Thanks to them for coming, and we look forward to more practices over the next weeks!
